Tragic details emerge as couple found dead together at home

A remote Tasmanian town has been rocked by the tragic deaths of a married couple in their home, in what police believe was a murder-suicide.
Emergency services found the bodies of the man and woman on Friday morning at a property on Native Corners Road in Campania, a town of just 1,000 people about 40 minutes from Hobart.
Police said they believe the man killed his wife before committing suicide.
“It appears a male resident took his own life and the female resident also suffered fatal injuries,” Tasmanian Police Detective Inspector David Gill told reporters. he said.
“Investigations so far have shown this to be a case of domestic violence and we are treating it as a murder-suicide.”
Detective Inspector Gill said the dead man contacted a close family member who alerted authorities.
He described the scene as “extremely confronting” for the first responders in attendance.


It was stated that the couple was a married couple in their 60s.
“We believe the deaths occurred shortly after a triple-0 call was made to Tasmania Police,” he said.
“Out of respect for the family members and due to the nature of the investigation, I will not go into further detail.”

The couple was not known to the police at all, the inspector said.
