Uma Bharti To Launch 18-Month Cow-Protection Campaign Ahead Of 2029 Polls

-Bhopal: Firebrand Hindutva leader and former chief minister Uma Bharti seems to be banking on the proposal of an 18-month-long cow protection campaign to be launched here on the occasion of ‘Gopastami’ on October 29 to return to electoral politics after a gap of ten years in 2029.
Ms. Bharti, who last contested and won the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi in 2014, has offered to contest from the seat as a BJP candidate in the 2029 parliamentary elections.
“I am ready to contest in the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. If I contest, I will contest from Jhansi. If the party asks me to contest (in the 2029 LS polls), I will contest, I will not refuse,” he said here.
The BJP veteran, who was elected to LS six times, four times from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, once from Bhopal and once from Jhansi, said, ‘I do politics for the Ganga and cow cause. ‘Otherwise I have nothing to do with politics.’
He had withdrawn from the 2019 LS polls citing poor health and ‘pre-occupation’ with the task of cleaning the Ganga ahead of the 2024 LS elections.
“My desire is to contest from Jhansi in 2029 LS polls,” he said.
Former Union minister Ms. Bharti announced to launch a campaign for cow protection here on October 29 on the occasion of ‘Gopastami’, the Hindu festival celebrating the day when Lord Krishan became a shepherd.
“The campaign will cover every village in Madhya Pradesh and will last for one and a half years,” he said.
Ms. Bharti announced that during her campaign, she would mobilize farmers in the state for the protection and preservation of cows as farmers are the natural guardians of cattle resources.
He said the move would not only promote cow conservation but also help boost the farm economy in the rural belt.
He also demanded that it be made mandatory for beneficiaries of various welfare schemes to raise cows for conservation.
Ms. Bharti appealed to the MP government to provide at least two cows to every beneficiary of the Ladli Behna scheme and transfer the responsibility of their protection to them.
He also declared that he will continue the Ganga cleanliness campaign on November 4 and announced his plan to mobilize eminent people from all states to come to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh to contribute to the cause.
