Trio charged with murdering teenager

Three men have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a teenager in Fitzroy.
Victoria Police have charged the men with the January 3 death of 16-year-old Ater (Elia) Good, who was shot dead in the early hours of the morning near where he lived at the intersection of Brunswick and King William Streets.
Police said Abdijalil Abdirahman Warsame, 19, of Heidelberg West, and Shakiib Farah Abdulkadir, 20, of Bundoora, were arrested on January 11 and charged with murder. They were detained to appear in court in June.
Homicide detectives raided Melbourne Airport in the early hours of Monday morning and arrested 21-year-old Heidelberg man Omar Omar, who was also charged. He was denied bail and was also ordered to remain in custody until June.
The Collingwood All Stars basketball club held a meeting for those who knew Good at Collingwood College on Wednesday. He had played for the club since 2018, starting with the under-9 teams and in local and representative teams.
“Elia was a quiet kid who loved basketball and worked hard to do his best for his team,” said the club’s general manager, Megan Rouse. “(We) mourn the tragic death of one of our young players.”
The club was already suffering the terrible death of another star young player. 15-year-old Dau AkuenginHe was killed in a stabbing attack along with his 12-year-old friend Chol Achiek at Cobblebank in Melbourne’s west in September.
Police found Good with life-threatening injuries around midnight, just meters from Fitzroy Police Station, which is closed to the public.
Speaking to the media on January 3, Detective Acting Inspector Brett Meadows said an officer was at the station when he heard two gunshots.
“He went outside to investigate and found a male on the sidewalk with head trauma consistent with a gunshot wound,” Meadows said.
Meadows said the police officer gave first aid, but the young man died at the scene.
CCTV recorded two teenagers walking near the police station before the shooting.
Ater’s father, Phillip Good, said on a crowdfunding page set up to help pay for funeral expenses that his son was “very much loved by his family, cherished by his friends and has a special place in the hearts of everyone who knew him.”
