Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar found dead at police HQ; post-mortem ordered

Guwahati: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar was found hanging in the bathroom attached to his room at the state police headquarters on Monday, officials said. The senior IPS officer was taken to the hospital and doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Dr Pradip Bhowmik, Head of Department of Medicine, Agartala Government Medical College and Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, said Dhankar was declared dead after doctors examined his vital parameters. “We have sent Dhankar’s body for post-mortem. The exact cause of death can be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.”

Dhankar, a 1994-batch IPS officer from Tripura cadre, took charge as DGP of the state on May 17 last year, replacing Amitabh Ranjan. Before that, he served as DGP (Intelligence) in Tripura.
