Trump admin alleges insurance fraud by NY AG Letitia James in DOJ referral

Fox News has confirmed that the Trump administration has filed new criminal charges with the Department of Justice targeting New York Attorney General Letitia James.
The referrals, submitted by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte, allege potential insurance fraud linked to properties linked to James and were sent for review to U.S. attorneys in Florida and reportedly Illinois.
“The Department of Justice can confirm that referrals were received by our U.S. Attorney’s Offices,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News.
One of the referrals obtained by Fox News claimed “dubious homeowners insurance fraud.”

The criminal complaint was forwarded to Jason Quinones, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, who will decide whether the case will proceed. In that case, his office would need to investigate the grand jury indictment.
The redirection came after bank fraud charges against James were dismissed by a Clinton-appointed judge late last year and a grand jury in Virginia later declined to reindict him.
The judge threw out the indictments against James and former FBI Director James Comey after finding they were illegitimate because they were brought by an unqualified U.S. attorney.

In one of the sentencing referrals, Pulte said it appeared James “may have provided false information on his homeowners insurance application” to Universal Property Insurance, a Fort Lauderdale-based company.
The referral references social media posts by Mike Davis, a longtime lawyer and ally of President Donald Trump.
Based on Davis’ post, Pulte said the New York attorney general “may have misrepresented that his property would be vacant for five months of the year.”
Pulte said this information may be inaccurate, according to the post.
“In fact, the house was occupied by his nephew throughout the year,” he continued.

“Therefore, it appears that Ms. James may have defrauded the Florida-based insurance company,” Pulte added.
Fox News Digital has reached out to James’ office and attorney for comment.
