US doctor Mehmet Öz announced that President Donald Trump believes that diet sodas destroy cancer cells in the body.

The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr. Speaking on his podcast Triggered with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Oz said: “Your father argues that diet soda is good for him because it kills grass… so it must also kill cancer cells in the body.”

There is no scientific evidence to support President Trump’s claim that diet soda kills cancer.

This isn’t the first time Trump’s dietary choices have been scrutinized by those close to him.

US Surgeon General Robert F. Kennedy Junior said the president had the most “irrational” eating habits of anyone in his administration.

Just days after the launch of the Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” dietary guidelines that recommend significant reductions in processed food consumption, Kennedy commented on Trump’s eating habits.

The 79-year-old president is known for his passion for fast food. In January, during a podcast interview with Katie Miller, wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, Kennedy was asked who had the most “mindless” eating habit and replied: “The President.

“The interesting thing about the president is that he eats really bad foods, which are McDonald’s, then candy and Diet Coke,” RFK Jr. said.

“He’s always drinking Diet Coke… I don’t know how he’s alive, but he’s alive.” Kennedy explained that Trump only consumes junk food when traveling because he believes he can trust food from big corporations and wants to avoid getting sick. Kennedy noted that Trump eats “really good food” at Mar-a-Lago or the White House.

“If you travel with him, you’ll get the idea that he’s pumping himself full of poison all day long and you won’t even know how he gets around, let alone the fact that he’s the most energetic person we’ve ever met.”

In October 2025, Republican National Committee chairman Joe Gruters announced that Trump was assembling his own custom-made McDonald’s super burger during the 2024 campaign trail, combining elements from two separate meals into one special creation.

“He had the Filet-o-Fish, the Quarter Pounder and the Big Mac, and I think he combined the two,” Gruters said at the time. “How can a man as senior as him get away with eating so much McDonald’s on a regular basis?”

Heavy consumption of processed foods is strongly linked to chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity; These are exactly the problems that Trump and Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” movement are trying to combat.
