Trump breaks silence on Henry Nowak scandal to slam UK’s ‘two-tiered policing’ | UK | News

The Trump administration has condemned what it calls “two-tiered policing” in the UK following the shocking murder of teenager Henry Nowak.
Henry Nowak, 18, was fatally stabbed by 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa in Southampton in December, then handcuffed by police as he lay dying in the street.
Following the release of the footage, Hampshire Constabulary apologized to Mr Nowak’s family for the distress caused by the officers’ actions and acknowledged errors had been made in the handling of the incident.
Police said officers arrived at a chaotic scene and initially believed Mr. Nowak may have been involved in the disorder before the true extent of his injuries became clear.
In a statement posted on social media, the US State Department offered its condolences to Mr Nowak’s family as it launched a scathing attack on UK officials.
“Ideological conditioning and two-tiered policing are glaring symptoms of the decline of civilization,” the statement said. “They need to be rejected throughout the West.”
“The United States extends our condolences to the family of Henry Nowak and the people of the United Kingdom at this troubling time.”
The intervention followed the release of disturbing police body camera footage that showed officers initially treating Nowak as a suspect despite his repeated insistence that he had been stabbed.
In the footage, the young man can be heard telling the police that he could not breathe after receiving a fatal wound. Before Nowak was handcuffed, an officer responded: “I don’t think you got it, man.”
Digwa, who stabbed the teenager with a ceremonial Sikh dagger known as a kirpan, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder on Monday.
Protests over the murder broke out in the UK, with scores of activists taking to the streets to demand justice for Nowak.
Nowak’s family has been invited to meet the Prime Minister in Downing Street on Thursday.
