Rogiet XL bully attack: Two people arrested after baby boy dies in South Wales

Two people have been arrested after a nine-month-old baby died in an XL bully attack in south Wales.
The attack by the family dog at an address in Crossway, Rogiet, was reported to emergency services at around 6pm on Sunday.
It was determined that the little boy died at the scene.
Gwent Police said two men from Rogiet were arrested on suspicion of being responsible for a dog that went dangerously out of control and caused fatal injuries.
Both individuals were arrested on suspicion of child neglect.
They were later released after further police interrogations.
The dog involved was a six-year-old XL bully registered with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). An exemption certificate was issued in 2024.
Deputy Chief Constable Vicki Townsend said: “The arrests took place as part of officers’ wide-ranging investigations to understand the circumstances of the death.
“These investigations are still ongoing and therefore you will continue to meet with officers in the area.
“If you have any information or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
“I understand there is a lot of interest in this in our communities, but this is now a live criminal investigation.
“It is vital that people consider how their online comments, particularly social media comments or posts, may impact the ongoing investigation and criminal justice process.
“We urge people not to speculate; if you have any information, including the dog (male, black XL bully) involved and its previous behaviour, please contact us directly instead.
“Once again, my condolences and thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragic death, both in the community and further afield.”
