Trump in China coverage halted for ‘medical emergency’ as anchor says ‘call a doctor’ | World | News

Live coverage of Donald Trump’s visit to China was abruptly stopped after a “medical emergency” occurred on-air.

The frightening moment came during CBS’s broadcast from Taiwan as host Tony Dokoupil discussed preparations for the Trump-Xi summit.

The incident occurred on the “CBS Evening News” while Dokoupil was hosting the latest episode from Taipei. As he continued talking, the camera started to shake, then he stopped and asked: “Is he okay?”

“We will take a short break. There is a medical emergency here,” Dokoupil said. “We’re calling a doctor.”

Another person was heard asking someone on camera to “call the doctor, please” before reporter Matt Gutman took over and took a break from broadcasting.

“Tonight on the last episode of CBS Evening News, our on-set cameraman suffered a medical emergency,” he told Program X. “Thankfully, he is doing well and is recovering.”

CBS did not identify the camera operator or say what caused the medical emergency.

Trump is in Beijing for an important two-day visit and is set to meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

The US President’s first official meeting today will be his arrival ceremony with Xi at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The two leaders will also hold talks before the state banquet planned to be held later this evening.

Tariffs, technology competition, Iran war and Taiwan are on the agenda of the two superpowers.

Trump is joined by tech moguls including Tesla’s Elon Musk and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang; He said he would ask China to “open up” to U.S. industry before Trump arrives.
