Modi Confident of Bengal Win

Barrackpore (West Bengal): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the Vijay Sankalp rally in Barrackpore ahead of the second phase of elections in West Bengal and expressed confidence in the BJP’s victory after the results on May 4.

Speaking at the meeting, the Prime Minister talked about his long relationship with the state and its impact on his spiritual journey. He said Bengal is a source of inspiration shaped by its cultural heritage and the love of its people.

Describing the Barrackpore rally as his last public meeting in the ongoing campaign, Modi said the public mood indicated a clear mandate. He added that the BJP expects to return to the state after May 4 for the swearing-in ceremony.

He also expressed the emotional bond he shared with people during campaign events, stating that he read messages, letters and watched the portraits presented to him, and often thought about them after the rallies.

Highlighting his decades-long political journey, Modi said he has been actively engaged in organizational and electoral responsibilities across the country, constantly working irrespective of time and circumstances.

The Chief Minister is campaigning in support of BJP candidate Kaustav Bagchi, who is contesting against the Trinamool Congress candidate and sitting MLA Raj (Raju) Chakraborty. CPI(M) candidate Suman Ranjan Bandyopadhyay is also in the fray, making it a three-way contest.

Located in North 24 Parganas district, Barrackpore Assembly constituency is one of the 294 constituencies in West Bengal and falls under the Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat.

On Sunday, Modi visited the historic Thanthania Kalibari temple in North Kolkata and offered prayers before starting his roadshow. Founded in 1703, the temple is dedicated to Maa Siddheshwari and is considered one of the oldest and most revered Kali temples in the city.

Voting for the first phase of Assembly elections ended on Thursday and voter turnout in West Bengal was 91.78 per cent, according to the Election Commission of India.

The second phase of voting will be held on April 29 and the counting of votes will be done on May 4.
