Trump urged to declare ‘American’ the official US language ahead of 250th anniversary
As America’s 250th birthday approaches, the President Donald Trump Changing the name of the nation’s language is encouraged.
Author Rob Lockwood, one of Doug Burgum’s former advisors, appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Saturday to discuss his opinion. Washington Post’s column He calls on the United States to adopt his language.
Lockwood said, “English is enough. American English is enough. Let’s call it American.”

Saying that Trump has the ability to distance the United States from the King’s English, Trump argued that although the United States separated from England two and a half centuries ago, its language remained tied to the past.
Lockwood called the name a “relic of the regime” and said the anniversary events were temporary compared to such permanent change.

“If ever there was a time to stand with America and speak American, it is the 250th anniversary of freedom,” Lockwood said.
He said America had developed its own version of the language, calling it a “dominant evolution” that should be officially recognized.
Lockwood argued that renaming the national language was not a new idea, adding that figures such as Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Noah Webster, the godfather of Webster’s Dictionary, had discussed the concept.

The administration has said the change is intended to unite the country and follows other rebranding efforts, including one in January 2025. Renaming the Gulf of Mexico To the Gulf of America.
Lockwood said the change may seem small, but it can last for generations.
“Changing languages is permanent. It’s something that will be with us for the rest of our lives,” he said.
