Trump’s Iran statement in full as he announces ceasefire deal | US | News

President Donald Trump said that if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, a ceasefire will be reached between the USA and Iran.

Trump made the announcement ahead of a grisly deadline in which he said he would send Iran “back to the stone age.”

In a post on his social media site Tuesday evening, Trump said he would “suspend bombings and attacks on Iran for two weeks” if Iran agrees to “FULLY, IMMEDIATELY, AND SAFELY OPENING THE Strait of Hormuz.”

Since the war began in February, Trump has issued a series of deadlines threatening to escalate the conflict and then backtracking just before they expired.

In his latest threat on Tuesday, he claimed that “an entire civilization will die tonight” if Iran fails to meet the deadline.

The President added that the decision was taken after discussions with Pakistani leaders.

“This will be a bilateral ceasefire!” he said.

He added: “We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran and we believe this is a workable basis for negotiation.

“Nearly all past disputes between the United States and Iran have been agreed upon, but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and completed.

“As President and on behalf of the United States of America representing the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor that this long-term problem is close to a solution.

“Thank you for your interest in this matter!”
