Trump’s list of nations whose immigrants receive welfare in U.S. does not mention India

On Sunday, January 4, 2025, US President Donald Trump published a list of many countries, including Pakistan, Bhutan, China, Bangladesh, and Nepal, highlighting the rates of welfare and assistance that immigrants from these countries in the US receive. India was not included in this review.
The ‘Immigrant Assistance Recipient Rates by Country of Origin’ list includes nearly 120 countries and territories around the world where U.S. immigrants receive assistance. India is not on the list.

The list includes Bangladesh, where 54.8% of immigrant households from this country receive assistance, Pakistan (40.2%), Nepal (34.8%), China (32.9%) and Israel/Palestine (25.9%), Ukraine 42.7%, and Asia (not elsewhere classified/specified) 38.8%.

Indian Americans are the second-largest population of Asian descent living in the United States, making up about 21% of the country’s Asian population, according to the Pew Research Center.
The median annual income of Indian-headed households was $151,200 in 2023.
For Asian-headed households overall, the figure was $105,600. The average annual income of Indian immigrant-headed households was higher than that of U.S.-born Indian-headed households ($120,200 versus $156,000).
According to Pew data, the median annual personal earnings of Indian Americans aged 16 and above was $85,300 in 2023; this was higher than for Asians overall ($52,400).
