Two members shot near White House, suspect in custody

Washington: Two members of the National Guard were shot in downtown Washington, D.C., two blocks from the White House.

Dozens of police, Secret Service and ambulance vehicles rushed to the scene near the corner of 17th and I Streets around 2:30 p.m. Washington time.

According to AP news, citing a source, it was stated that two National Guard members were in critical condition after the attack. In this tagline, a person was seen being pulled into a waiting ambulance just after 14.30.

The Metropolitan Police Department said a suspect is in custody. The AP reported that the suspect was shot.

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said in a post on the X channel that the White House was locked, thinking that US President Donald Trump was in Florida.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “The White House is aware of this tragic situation and is actively monitoring it. The President has been informed.”

Trump soon posted about the shootings on TruthSocial.

“The animal that shot two National Guardsmen, both of whom were seriously injured and is currently being treated in two separate hospitals, is also seriously injured, but no matter what, it will pay a very heavy price,” he said.

“God bless our Great National Guard and our entire Military and Law Enforcement. These are truly Great Men. I, as President of the United States of America, and all those connected with the Office of the President, stand with you!”
