Two Youths Abducted, Assaulted Over Threat To Make Student’s Video Viral
What are you doing? Two youths were allegedly kidnapped and brutally assaulted in Bhubaneswar over accusations that they had threatened to spread a video of a schoolgirl on social media, police said on Tuesday.
The police rescued the victims approximately 12 hours after the kidnapping and detained 5 people, including the student, in connection with the incident.
While the arrested defendants were stated to be Pramod Sethi, Debashish Mahapatra, Oscar Nath and Brahma Jena, the identity of the student was kept secret.
According to police sources, the two young men allegedly threatened the student a few days ago, saying they would share his video on social media. It was alleged that the student later reported the matter to his friends and they conspired to kidnap the duo.
According to investigation, the victims were on their way to an educational institution in Patrapada district on Monday when a car blocked them. Allegedly, four young people got out of the vehicle, attacked them and forcibly dragged them into the car.
Police alleged that the accused then took the victims to a secluded place, where they tied them up inside a house and beat them brutally.
Following a complaint from the victims’ families, Info Valley police launched an investigation into the incident. Taking action upon specific notices, the police raided late at night and rescued two young people.
Info Valley Police Station officials said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest others allegedly involved in the kidnapping and attack.
