The interim peace agreement between the United States and Iran gives inspectors affiliated with the UN nuclear watchdog access to the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities, according to the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The comments came shortly after Trump said Iran had agreed to allow nuclear inspections, even as Iran insisted there were no new plans for UN inspectors to visit areas damaged by US and Israeli strikes.

“There’s a bit of a war of expression here,” IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said at a news conference in Japan on Friday.

Grossi said, “What is undeniable is that we have a Memorandum of Understanding. This Memorandum of Understanding specifically states that the nuclear part will be inspected. That is the word, it will be inspected by the IAEA. We need to inspect in order to inspect. There is no other way.” he said.

“Technical work has started and we hope to be there soon,” he added.
