Aston Villa enter talks to sign Chelsea’s Garnacho

Aston Villa He is in talks to sign Alejandro Garnacho on loan with an obligation to buy.

The 21-year-old Argentine winger was put on sale by Chelsea for £43 million last month, but the club are open to a move that could see him leave permanently, even if he is initially on loan.

It comes after Chelsea agreed a record fee of £117 million for Villa’s Morgan Rogers on Saturday night.

A separate deal has since been mooted that would see both Garnacho and striker Nicolas Jackson move away from Villa Park for £65 million.

If completed, the transfer would be Villa’s fourth signing in a busy summer full of arrivals and departures, following the move of Garnacho, Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Kaba Cisse to the Midlands club.

With the departures of Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin from the club, player sales from Villa total around £200 million.

The Blues were keen to cut Garnacho from their squad despite only signing him from Manchester United in a £40 million deal last September, as he would receive 10 per cent of the transfer fee.

His impact at Stamford Bridge was limited to one goal in the Premier League and the arrival of Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda increased the need to downsize the squad.
