UK braces for hottest May day on record as 30C heat continues

Warm weather could lead to a few storms across central England and Wales on Tuesday. However, these are likely to be highly localized and not sufficient to significantly disrupt heat.
On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to ease across much of eastern and south-eastern England. The cold air will temporarily spread across the North Sea, as some places will experience a drop of 5 to 10 degrees.
But sheltered from North Sea breezes, Wales and south-west England will remain quite warm. Highs here can still reach 30C.
On Thursday, the supply of cold air will be cut off due to the arrival of warm air from France again. This means temperatures will rise, with 30C on the cards.
Most weather forecast models show that the recovery will begin next weekend and become clearer into next week.
The jet stream north of us this week will lurch southward, meaning areas of low pressure, occasional rain, stronger winds and a drop in temperature as we head into the first week of June.
