UK city announces £3 price hike at 3 popular attractions this week | UK | News

Visitors to some of Nottingham’s most popular heritage attractions will face higher entry costs from this week as new pricing comes into force as part of Nottingham City Council’s latest budget. Entrance prices to Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Hall and Newstead Abbey have increased from £15 to £18 for adults, with the changes reflected on the venues’ websites from Monday 27 April.

As before, tickets purchased will continue to offer year-round access to individual events. Admission is free for children under 15, with a maximum of three children allowed per paying adult.

The outlines of the price increase were first revealed in October 2025 when the council announced its budget plans. Alongside the increase, a new combined annual pass, priced at £144, has been introduced which allows two adults to access all three sites for a year, plus free parking at Wollaton Hall and Newstead Abbey.

Despite the high fees, the council says attractions in Nottingham are competitively priced compared to similar venues in neighboring areas.

A family of four can visit Nottingham Castle for £36 under the new pricing structure; this is around £10 less than the cost of entrance to Lincoln Castle.

The price update comes as Nottingham Castle continues to rebuild its visitor base following its reopening in summer 2023. The site was previously closed after the trust running the business collapsed, but the council confirmed in March 2024 that the site had surpassed its 200,000 visitor target three months ahead of schedule.

Meanwhile, Newstead Abbey, Lord Byron’s former home, is set to benefit from £1.5 million in government funding for essential roof and drainage repairs aimed at fixing persistent leaks and protecting the historic property.

The council says the changes are part of wider efforts to protect and invest in Nottingham’s cultural and heritage assets while balancing financial pressures.
