UK fish and chip shop supplier collapses into liquidation after 30 years | UK | News

A company that supplied frying equipment to British fish and chip shops has gone into liquidation. Headquartered in Scotland, the company has been operating for over thirty years.

It has been confirmed that Scotrange has ceased trading with five staff and two executives have been made redundant. The Glenrothres-based company has appointed Henderson Loggie’s Shona Campbell as liquidator. A spokesman said in a statement: “At the point of closure, the business employed five people, including two managers. All employees have been made redundant. The subsequent liquidation is a formal process to end the affairs of the business.”

As reported by MessengerScotrange, formerly known as Gas and Electric Catering, was founded in 1995 by Steve Wilkie and Audrey Stevenson. The former had his own chippy and appreciated the challenges of making sure the frying equipment met the appropriate regulations.

The business has since supplied and serviced frying equipment for fish and chip shops. He even designed his own catering equipment, including frying equipment for the hotel industry.

Scotrange says on its website that they “search for ‘good condition’ second-hand ranges around the country and store them until we have a customer who needs a configuration in existing stock.” They also share images of some of their product range, including new fryer tops and refurbished fryers.

The company adds: “At this point we remove the entire Range until the base frame and top work remain, everything else is discarded. We chemically dip the entire top work and frame to remove any accumulated dirt and grime, power wash and finally mechanically re-polish the top work to achieve a ‘as close to new’ finish as possible.”

“The ranges have been refurbished to the highest possible standard including all new wiring and electrical installation as well as a new automatic gas system which complies with current gas regulations and insurance requirements. The actual pans, worktop (made to suit the new location) and front panels in the customer’s choice of color and design are also new. All new Ducts internally and externally including a new fan and motor.”
