UK sees longest period without small boats migrant arrivals for seven years

According to official figures, Britain has recorded the longest period without arrivals of migrants crossing the English Channel on small boats in seven years.

According to the latest Home Office data, the last date people completed the journey by boat and reached UK shores was 28 days ago, on November 14.

Since then, no immigrants have been recorded arriving in the country up to and including 12 December; this was the longest uninterrupted period since the fall of 2018.

December is traditionally one of the quietest months for Channel crossings; The combination of low temperatures, poor visibility, less daylight and stormy weather make the journey particularly difficult.
