Australia set for warmer winter with temperatures 5C above city averages

Temperatures will be higher than normal in Australia this week; Some major cities will be 5 degrees higher than the year’s average.
Sydney will experience high temperatures in the low 20s all week, while Melbourne will experience temperatures in the high teens with highs of 21 degrees on Wednesday.
Brisbane and Adelaide will also be warmer than 20C; Perth and Hobart will be in the mid to high teens.
Temperatures in Darwin will be in the low 30s with a chance of a shower or two during the week.

Rising temperatures are part of a trend that is expected to continue throughout the winter.

“Overnight temperatures are likely to be above average across much of Australia.”
The tropical Pacific is approaching El Niño levels and warmer sea temperatures are already affecting the atmosphere, the BoM said.
“Sea surface temperatures from July to September are forecast to be warmer than average across much of the world, including much of Australia,” they said.
