Urgent search for missing elderly man spotted on major Sydney road three weeks after disappearance

A desperate search is underway for a 75-year-old man living with dementia suspected of disappearing in Sydney’s south-west more than three weeks.

Ivan Jakus, also known as John, was last seen at a club on Cowpasture Rd in Leppington at around 5.30pm on April 21.

The elderly man was reported missing after he did not return to the aged care facility in Casula.

Police investigations revealed that the elderly man was seen leaving Leppington Railway Station at around 7.30pm on Sunday night and was later seen outside a house on Ramsay Road in Rossmore at around 10pm.

“Police and the family have serious concerns about Ivan’s welfare as he lives with dementia, requires regular medication and has been missing for several weeks,” the police statement said.

A multi-agency search including police, SES and the NSW Rural Fire Service was deployed to the Rossmore area in the hope of finding the man.

At around 11.30am on Saturday, May 2, police received dashcam footage of an elderly man struggling in the median lane of Elizabeth Drive, approximately 750 meters south-east of the M7 Motorway at Cecil Hills.

Police were unable to locate the man in the median strip but believe it could be Ivan.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 165cm tall, of medium build and with short gray hair.

He was last seen wearing a white Adidas t-shirt, dark navy blue shorts, white socks and a pair of dark-colored shoes.

Police believe Ivan is still traveling on foot in the Leppington area.

However, they said Ivan could have gone farther because he was “extremely active”.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
