Urgent search underway after swimmer ‘in distress’ vanishes 100m offshore from Trigg Beach in Perth

A desperate search is underway to find a missing swimmer who was last seen “in danger” in the waters off a major Perth beach.
Emergency services were first called to the scene at Trigg Beach at around 5.15pm on Tuesday after the man was seen to be “in danger” about 100 meters offshore.
He then disappeared from view, Western Australia Police said in a statement.
Officers from Mirrabooka Police, Water Police and the Police Air Wing attended the site to conduct a search and rescue operation with assistance from Volunteer Sea Rescue.
Water Police officers continued the search for the swimmer on Wednesday with assistance from the Police Air Wing, Mounted Section, ground crews and Surf Life Saving WA.
A WA Police spokesman said the man had still not been located.
“Investigations are continuing to determine the swimmer’s identity and medical condition,” police said in a statement.

“No one has been reported missing at this time in connection with the incident.
Police would like to hear from any community members who were in danger in the water and may have self-rescued.
Surf Lifesaving WA says Trigg Beach is best suited for intermediate to highly experienced swimmers due to the “larger waves and strong rips” along the shore.
Surf Lifesaving WA’s website continues: “Take care when surfing this beach as the waves can be deceptively large and north-west winds can be quite dangerous.”
