After Days Of Chaos In Milan, Air India’s Rescue Flight Brings Passengers Back To Delhi | World News

Air India launched a special rescue flight from Milan to Delhi to come to the aid of more than 250 distraught passengers stranded in Italy for days after their original flight was grounded due to a technical fault. What started as a festive journey home for Diwali turned into an anxious wait until the national airline stepped in and took its passengers back under its wings of safety.

AI138D Special Flight Brings Comfort to Stranded Passengers

The airline announced that the additional service, flight AI138D, will depart Milan at 19:00 local time on Sunday, October 19, and will arrive in Delhi on the morning of October 20.

Technical Malfunction Caused Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Air India confirmed that the original flight AI138 was canceled on October 17 after the Boeing 787 Dreamliner encountered a technical issue when it landed in Milan. The aircraft required extensive maintenance, causing the airline to cancel the return leg to Delhi.

To ensure passenger comfort, Air India said it is offering hotel accommodation, meals and both refund and rescheduling options to those affected. “We are deeply committed to supporting our guests every step of the way and we regret any inconvenience,” the carrier said.

Many of the stranded passengers returning home for Diwali celebrations were accommodated on the special flight intended to bring them back to India after a long delay.

The airline also addressed complaints on social media about limited passenger facilities at Milan Airport, explaining that hotel arrangements had been made for all affected passengers, although some accommodation was located further away from the airport due to high demand.

This is not the first time Air India has faced such disruptions. Similar incidents were reported earlier this year, including in August, when Milan-Delhi flights were halted twice due to technical faults and flight crew duty restrictions. The carrier stated that safety remains its top priority, with all measures taken to ensure safe travel conditions.
