US carries out strikes on Iran as Trump issues ‘accountable’ warning | World | News

US Central Command said in a statement on Sunday evening (July 12) that it has begun launching attacks to reduce Iran’s ability to attack ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

“The commander in chief directed the attacks to hold Iranian forces accountable.”

The attacks mark the latest conflict since the war began on February 28, when the US and Israel launched joint attacks on some key parts of Iran.

Iran retaliated by closing the critical Strait of Hormuz trade route through which 20% of global oil trade passes.

Early Sunday, the United States struck more than 100 sites in Iran following a missile attack on a ship in the strait.

While launching attacks on targets in Iran, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, the crew of the container ship had to abandon the ship in flames.

In a separate statement, CENTCOM said it hit nearly 140 targets, targeting missile and drone launch sites, ammunition depots and communications equipment.

The ceasefire agreement collapsed last week after Iran attacked the ships.

US President Donald Trump Last Tuesday, it was announced that the agreement was canceled following Tehran’s missile attacks on three gas and oil ships in the Strait of Hormuz at the beginning of the week.
