Woman critical after ‘unprovoked attack’

A woman is in a critical condition after being stabbed in the neck in an “unprovoked attack” in Birmingham city centre.
A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the attack on Friday night.
West Midlands Police said officers were called to Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 21:00 GMT.
Police said a woman in her 30s suffered a serious neck injury and was in hospital in a critical condition.
A man was reportedly arrested near the scene and remains in custody.
Authorities are currently continuing their investigations in the area.
Det Insp James Nix said: “We believe this was an unprovoked attack and we are trying to understand why this happened.”
“We will have officers in the area today to continue our investigation and provide reassurance.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident at this time.”
Police have appealed for witnesses and asked anyone who knows more to contact 101.
St Martin’s Queensway western boundary is closed from Moor Street Queensway to Smallbrook Queensway.
