Verstappen wins, Piastri second to ensure three-way title showdown

Max Verstappen won the Qatar Grand Prix for Red Bull on Sunday, taking his Formula 1 title fight with McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri to the season-ending clash in Abu Dhabi next weekend.

Briton Norris finished fourth behind Spaniard Carlos Sainz’s Williams, while the gap was reduced to 12 points as Verstappen moved to second in the standings with his third consecutive win in Qatar.

Australian Piastri finished second after starting from pole and winning the Saturday sprint, dropping to third overall, four points behind four-time world champion Verstappen.

The top three drivers each have seven wins on the season.
