British boy, 13, fatally stabbed in central Portugal

SCOCS – BasketballTributes were paid to a 13-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed in central Portugal on Tuesday.
The boy, named locally as British citizen Alfie Hallett, died after being found “with multiple injuries caused by a sharp weapon” in the Casais neighborhood of Tomar.
According to Portuguese police, a suspect with similar injuries was found in a possible gas explosion, and a member of the National Republican Guard (GNR) was also injured in this explosion.
The British Foreign Office said it was “in contact with local authorities following the incident in Portugal.”
Alfie’s basketball club, Sport Club Operario Cem Soldos (SCOCS), paid tribute to him with a post on Facebook.
“SCOCS BASKETBALL got poorer today,” he said. “Our athlete Alfie passed away today at the age of 13.
“He played his last game on Saturday, he played so well, it was as if he knew it would be his last game, but he was far from imagining it.
“We want to tell you how much we love you and that you will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace.”
Police said they found the mother showing signs of being restrained and assaulted by authorities.
Police added that the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“The alleged perpetrator had already served a prison sentence for aggravated murder and the family had been flagged following recorded incidents of domestic violence in 2022 and 2023,” a spokesman said. he said.
Portuguese television news channel SIC Notícias reported that the mother and child were British.
However, it was stated that the suspect was a Portuguese citizen.
The Leiria Criminal Investigation Department is handling the investigation into the two deaths.
