Video shows moment Henry Nowak’s murderer tells his mother to take knife away
CCTV footage has revealed the moment Henry Nowak’s killer Vickrum Digwa told his mother to move the knife away from the scene.
Kiran Kaur, 53, of St Denys Road, Southampton, was convicted by jurors in May after taking the gun to the nearby family home on the night of the murder on December 3, 2025.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) footage comes after Digwa’s mother was sentenced to three years in prison at Southampton Crown Court last week for assisting an offender.
Digwa, 23, was sentenced to a minimum of 21 years in prison on June 1 for murdering the 18-year-old finance student after falsely claiming that Mr Nowak had racially abused her.
In the video clip, shot with Digwa’s phone pointed at the ground, he can be heard talking to Kaur in Punjab and asking her to take the gun.
A transcript released by CPS details how Digwa spoke in Punjabi and then said: “Take this,” which they say refers to the knife.
Sentencing Kaur on July 17, Judge William Mousley KC said: “By then you knew or believed that he had stabbed and wounded Henry” when Digwa told him to get the murder weapon.
He also told her: “A responsible parent would challenge their sons on their behavior and encourage them to do the right thing.”
Instead, the judge said, Kaur took the knife home and placed it “in your son’s bedroom with a larger collection of ceremonial and other weapons”, which could have helped conceal its use as she wanted him to “avoid being caught”.
The judge said his actions before and after taking the dagger off Belmont Road “strengthen your son’s claim that he did nothing wrong and that he was the victim”.
He said his role contributed to “the humiliation of Henry being arrested as he lay dying”.
Following his sentencing, Nowak’s family said in a statement that they were “incredibly disappointed” and “will never give up on our campaign for justice for Henry.”
The statement said: “As we fight for the full facts about what happened last December, we are focused on ensuring ongoing investigations leave no stone unturned and continue to call on the Government to make the changes our wonderful son deserves.”
Following the Digwa case, outrage erupted after body-worn video was released by police showing Mr Nowak, of Chafford Hundred, Essex, being handcuffed moments before he lost consciousness and subsequently died.
