BJP MLC and former Minister AH Vishwanath has raised serious objections to the government’s decision to cancel the dismissal of Director General of Police (DGP) K. Ramachandra Rao.
Mr Rao, who served as DGP of the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, was suspended earlier this year after a series of videos allegedly showing him in compromising positions with women in his office emerged on social media.
“Does law have value in your government? How can the government cancel his suspension?”, Mr Vishwanath asked, before citing reports pointing to a forensic examination confirming that the videos had not been tampered with. he asked.
Mr. Vishwanath also recalled that Mr. Rao’s name was linked to a bus robbery case that took place during his tenure as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Mysuru and the recent gold smuggling case involving his step-daughter Ranya Rao.
Expressing disappointment over the government’s decision, Mr. Vishwanath wondered whether the Home Ministry was being led by G. Parameshwara or the Chief Minister’s son Yathindra Siddaramaiah.
Mr. Vishwanath also suspected that kickbacks would be taken in reinstating Mr. Rao.
Congratulations from BSY
Mr. Vishwanath also heavily criticized the felicitation ceremony organized by former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in Chitradurga to commemorate the senior BJP leader’s 50th year in politics.
He said Mr. Yediyurappa was an accused in a serious case like Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) and said felicitating a POCSO accused would raise questions about respect for law.
It is also “utterly absurd” that the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah attended the felicitation ceremony of a person who was released on bail for a sexual offense against a minor.
