Met Office issues major weather warning update affecting 131 areas – full list | Weather | News

Meteorology updated one of the yellow warnings issued in recent days. The national weather forecaster announced Tuesday, Jan. 6, that he is bringing forward his yellow alert for icy conditions to Tuesday evening. The warning, covering 131 across Scotland, Wales and much of England, was originally planned to come into force from midnight to 10am on Wednesday.

However, it has now been arranged to start from 7.13pm on Tuesday until 10am on Wednesday. The Met Office has warned of potential disruptions caused by ice, including travel delays and injuries. The statement said: “Some injuries due to slips and falls on icy surfaces, Possibly some ice on some untreated roads, sidewalks and bike paths.”

The weather service advised people to leave earlier and be extra careful to avoid slipping on the ice. Motorists are asked to check road conditions before setting off as you may need to make alternative travel arrangements.

It said: “Keep yourself and your family safe when it’s freezing. Plan to leave home at least five minutes earlier than usual. Not having to rush reduces your risk of accidents, slips and falls.”

“If you must travel by foot, try using pavements along main roads, which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if you’re cycling, try sticking to main roads, which are more likely to be treated.

“If you’re driving, give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions or bus and train schedules and changing your travel plans if necessary.”
