Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, Jerome Powell’dan 2026 as a president to be captured as a candidate, on Wednesday within two weeks of the ratio -cutting cycle began to express the support of starting and the Central Bank has the flexibility to adjust this tempo in the future, he said.
“When the labor market turns badly, it turns badly … So for me, we need to start cutting rates at the next meeting,” Waller said in an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box”. “We don’t have to take a step -by -step step. We can see where things go, because people are still worried about tariff inflation. I’m not me, but everyone is.”
Waller, who was thought to be on the list of potential successors for President Donald Trump’s FED President, was one of the two FED governors who opposed the July FOMC decision to keep the Central Bank’s comparison interest rate fixed between 4.25-4.5%. The two governors had first opposed the committee rate decision for more than 30 years.
The Waller believes that there should be a large number of deductions in the next few months, and today’s interest rates are perhaps above 1.0 to 1.5 points.
“For the next three or six months, I can say that more than one segment has come. Whether it is like any other meeting, we will have to wait and see every meeting [what] Data says Waller, “he says.
Waller agreed that tariffs were a tax that would slow down growth on the consumer, but he does not see any stagnation in his economic estimate.
The Fed’s next policy meeting is planned to be held on 16-17 September.
The Waller refused to comment on the attempt to expel Lisa Cook, Trump’s Federal Reserve Governor. However, the FED reiterated the importance of independence and said that the Central Bank would maintain its independence.
“The Fed has critical importance for everything we are independent, and there are things that worry about people, but I still believe that we have an independent fed.” He said. “The appointed people will behave in this way and act in an apolitical way.”
