West Bengal govt. suppressing peaceful protests over violence against Hindus in Bangladesh: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday accused the West Bengal government of suppressing peaceful protests by Hindu organizations against what it described as ongoing “targeted violence” against community members in Bangladesh.

Addressing a press conference, BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said attacks on the community in Bangladesh have deeply hurt and angered Hindus in India, leading to peaceful demonstrations in various parts of the country.

But National Development India claimed the situation was “horrible” in states governed by the Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc. He alleged that INDIA bloc partners have adopted the ideology of “elimination of Sanatan Dharma” and are protecting “illegal immigrants”.

Mr. Trivedi accused the West Bengal government and police of acting against peaceful protests by Hindu organizations due to ongoing attacks on minority communities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh.

“We strongly condemn this brutal act. This clearly reveals that the West Bengal government has adopted the ideology of ‘Elimination of Sanatan Dharma’.” [their allies in] “Tamil Nadu and he is implementing it there,” he claimed, citing past controversies, including statements about the construction of Babri Masjid in West Bengal and Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra’s “pathetic” remarks about Lord Rama.

The BJP leader also recalled a past statement by West Bengal Minister Firhad Hakim, who once described a constituency as a “mini Pakistan”.

“Many ‘mini-Pakistans’ are now being created in West Bengal under Trinamool Congress rule. Hindus do not even have the freedom to express their sorrows, emotions and pain,” he alleged. Seeking to draw a parallel with Bangladesh, he claimed that Jamaat-e-Islami was committing targeted violence against Hindus there, while the Trinamool Congress government was carrying out targeted actions against Hindus.

Referring to the killing of Hargobindo Das and his son Chandan Das in Murshidabad earlier this year, Mr. Trivedi claimed that the incident was a case of targeted violence and had no connection with the Wakf Board issue. While talking about the ‘Direct Action Day’ in August 1946, he claimed that ‘targeted action days’ were currently being conducted under the present West Bengal government.
