Which states win the most Mega Millions jackpots? Lottery climbs to $900 million after longest stretch without a winner in over 20 years

After no ticket matched all the numbers in Friday’s drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot rose to an estimated $900 million, making it the eighth-largest prize in the game’s history. This extends the lottery’s longest streak without a jackpot winner in more than two decades, according to NBC New York.

The winning numbers drawn on Friday were 16, 21, 23, 48, 70 and the golden Mega Ball 5. Players’ best chance to strike it rich will be on Tuesday night when the next draw takes place. There have been 38 consecutive drawings and no jackpot winners, a dry spell not seen in more than 20 years.

Mega Millions’ last jackpot winner

The last Mega Millions jackpot winner won when a $348 million ticket was sold in Virginia on June 27. The estimated cash value of the current prize is $415.3 million.
Jackpot winners earlier this year were reported to be in Ohio ($112 million on April 18), Illinois ($349 million on March 25) and Arizona ($112 million on January 17).

According to ABC news based on Mega Millions, the odds of winning the jackpot remain a daunting number of 1 in 290,472,336. The game is played in 45 states, as well as Washington DC and the US Virgin Islands, for $5 per game. The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever, a staggering $1.6 billion, was won on August 8, 2023.
