Whistleblower out. Cricket Australia investigates ‘contracts-for-mates’ affair

Cricket Australia has launched an internal investigation into a $600,000 cloud deal after whistleblowers paid hefty fees. Joel Jenkins reports.

Cricket Australia has confirmed it is conducting an ‘independent review’ of the controversial $600,000 cloud services contract at the center of spouses’ contract claims; but the whistleblower who first raised concerns has already lost his job.

The governing body is under increasing pressure as the Australian Cricketers’ Association is understood to be seeking reassurance over officiating standards in the wake of the scandal.

human cost

A passionate, long-term Cricket Australia employee approached the board with his concerns before going public anonymously. Michael West MediaIt is understood that he was dismissed shortly after a detailed complaint was made.

The whistleblower, described by colleagues as the game’s private guardian, presented an extensive dossier containing ASIC documents, timesheets and internal records. He has since been relieved of his duties.

South Indian network at center of allegations

At the center of this incident is a group of companies with strong links to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The senior Digital and Technology executive at the center of the allegations, along with several other swiftly recruited senior managers in his division, share professional backgrounds in the NRL and similar South Indian regional backgrounds.

The report highlights how SST Cloud Pty Ltd and related entities TruFyre Technologies secured over $600,000 in purchase orders at an extraordinary pace.

Dangerous operations?

Key questions about the deal remain:

  • No formal RFP or detailed SOW appears to have been completed.
  • Contractors began work in mid-January 2026, ahead of any purchase orders.
  • A number of senior oversight roles, including the Head of Cybersecurity and Head of Customer Experience, were eliminated in March-April 2026, with around 20 positions lost during the broader reshuffle.

CA responds

A Cricket Australia spokesperson told MWM:

“We are aware of the allegations and they are currently being independently reviewed.”

The organization declined to comment on specific transactions, the executive’s connections to vendors or the timing of the layoffs.

MWM has contacted the senior executive named in the report for comment on his alleged links to TruFyre Technologies Pty Ltd and SST Cloud Pty Ltd. He replied:

“As per our protocol and guidelines, please contact our media and communications department with any questions you may have and they will be happy to answer the same.”

The revelations intensified pressure on embattled CEO Todd Greenberg and chairman Mike Baird. These new management concerns come at the worst possible time, with the states already demanding drastic cost cuts at headquarters and the Big Bash League’s privatization process under fire.
