White House releases memo describing results of Trump’s health checkup | Donald Trump
Donald Trump is struggling with “leg swelling” and “benign” hand bruising but is in excellent health, the US president’s doctor said in a memo released by the White House.
Citing the results of a recent examination, Dr Sean Barbabella’s note said Trump “is in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and general physical function.”
The statement, released Tuesday and issued late Friday, maintained that the president is “fully fit to discharge all duties of the presidency.”
Trump’s visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday was his third in 13 months and his fourth in his second presidency.
It was closely watched last year as the White House was forced to detail many of the president’s health conditions after photos at times revealed swollen ankles, bruised hands and a stained neck.
Trump is also the oldest person elected to the White House, and his 80th birthday is on June 14. Joe Biden was 82 and faced questions about his mental acumen when he left the Oval Office ahead of Trump’s second presidency.
Shortly after his visit to Walter Reed on Tuesday, Trump remarked that “everything was perfectly controlled.”
Barbabella’s note stated that Trump had “slight swelling in his leg and there is improvement compared to last year.” Barbabella added that the president also sustained hand bruising, which was described as “common,” “benign” and “consistent with mild soft tissue irritation due to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention.”
The note did not specify the reason for the skin treatment performed on the president’s neck in March. He was also not told that he had undergone another magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination, as he had in October.
In the note from Barbabella, it was stated that the president’s general heart function was normal. Trump was said to have received a “comprehensive neurological examination, including screenings for depression and anxiety, indicating that his mental state was normal.”
In the note, Trump’s height was 190 cm and his weight was 108 kg (238 lbs).
He added: “Preventive counseling was provided, including guidance on diet, advice to take low doses of aspirin, increasing physical activity and maintaining weight loss.”
