‘Who the hell are you to think that…’

Gulshan Devaiah said showbiz is inherently competitive, unpredictable and often unfair, but this is the foundation of the industry.
Gulshan Devaiah on nepotism
Gulshan Devaiah has never shied away from calling a spade a spade. The actor, in an exclusive chat with IANS recently, did not mince words and poured his heart out about the eternal ‘Insider and Outsider’ debate. Speaking passionately about the whole nepotism debate, Gulshan slammed actors who whine about losing their jobs to ‘insiders’.
“Everyone has their own advantages. We conveniently forget our own advantage and privilege, the privilege we have over millions of less privileged people, and start crying for those who are more privileged than us. This is nonsense. I am sick and tired of this. Stop complaining. I’m not saying don’t put up with injustice, but stop whining about such petty nonsense and get to work,” the Kantara Episode 1 actor added.
Gulshan added that the nature of show business is inherently competitive, unpredictable and often unfair, but this is the foundation of the industry. “Accept the nature of the business. This is the nature of the business. Are you prepared? Only then come into the industry, otherwise get lost. Do something else,” he said.
Emphasizing the importance of humility and consistent effort, which are the only secret to achieving goals, the actor said that he believes that every artist deserves better, but being entitled is never the solution. Gulshan asked, “Who are you to think you deserve better?” he asked. “Keep your head down and work and hope for the best. There are so many things you can do instead of whining and crying and this nepotism nonsense. It would never bother me and it should never bother anyone,” the Hunterrr actor concluded.
Meanwhile, the actor is receiving great response for his recently released show Perfect Family, which also stars Seema Pahwa, Manoj Pahwa, Neha Dhupia and Girija Oak. The series highlights the mental health stigma prevalent in almost every Indian household and has been praised for its sensitive storytelling and powerful performances. Perfect Family, released on YouTube, is produced by Pankaj Tripathi and Ajay Rai and directed by Sachin Pathak.
