A 30-year-old Indian student was stabbed to death in Worcester, England, earlier this week. In a statement, West Mercia Police said five people were arrested but later released on bail. According to police, the student was found seriously injured on Barbourne Road and taken to hospital but died the same day.

The victim has been identified as Vijay Kumar Sheoran, hailing from Jagrambas village in Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri district. Police said he was found with life-threatening injuries on Tuesday, November 25. Authorities arrested five men, aged between 22 and 35, in connection with the attack. However, all were released on bail while the investigation continued. According to media reports, Sheoran left his government post at the Central Board of Excise and Customs earlier this year to pursue his studies in the UK. He was studying at the University of the West of England in Bristol. His family requested diplomatic assistance to carry out the investigation fully and bring his body home.

Member of legislative assembly (MLA) from Charkhi Dadri, Sunil Satpal Sangwan, in a post on X, said he was saddened by Sheoran’s death and expressed his condolences to his family. “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Vijay Kumar Sheoran, an Indian student from Jagrambas Village, Charkhi Dadri (Haryana) District, who died following a brutal stabbing incident in Worcester.” He called on the central government to “intervene as soon as possible and provide all possible support to the bereaved family”. Sangwan added: “We call for a transparent, fair and timely investigation to ensure that justice is served and the perpetrators are held strictly accountable.”
