Himanta Welcomes Shah’s Assurance On Interlocutor On Three Tribes’ Demand

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday welcomed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s assurance of appointing an interlocutor to convey their demands for constitutional status for the autonomous councils of the three tribes in the state.
A delegation from Rabha, Mising and Tiwa communities had visited Shah in New Delhi in the presence of Sarma and state Cabinet minister Ranoj Pegu.
“I express my sincere gratitude to Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji for meeting the delegations of Rabha, Mising and Tiwa communities who have been seeking constitutional status for their Autonomous Councils for a long time,” Sarma said in a post on X. he said.
He said the Union Home Minister’s assurance to appoint an interlocutor and initiate institutional dialogue was “extremely reassuring and heart-warming”.
“This reflects the Government of India’s commitment to inclusive governance, dialogue and protection of the constitutional aspirations of Assam’s indigenous communities,” Sarma said. he added.
Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, Mising Autonomous Council and Tiwa Autonomous Council are statutory autonomous councils constituted by the state government for the social, economic, educational, ethnic and cultural development of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities living in the Core Areas as well as Satellite Areas covering various districts.
