Sirens wail, cities shut down as Taiwan simulates Chinese air raid

Sirens played at 13:30 (0530 GMT) to mark the beginning of compulsory street evacuation drills that effectively cover the towns and cities in the north for 30 minutes.

Tourists in Taipei’s Ximending Shopping Zone were caught unprepared by Siren because they were seized inside and underground.

During the exercise, the police in Taipei directed the vehicles to move to the roads. Some shops and restaurants pulled blinds and closed the lights – steps aiming to reduce the risk of being a target in case of night attack.

China, which democratically ruled Taiwan as the territory of the island, has increased its military pressure in the last five years.

Taiwan President Lai Ching-Te says the sovereignty of Beijing and says that only Taiwan can decide the future of his people.

China never gave up the use of power to control Taiwan.
