A longtime television weatherman died in a small plane crash in Idaho earlier this week.

On Tuesday, January 27, CBS2 chief meteorologist Roland Steadham was named as one of the people killed in a two-person crash that occurred earlier that day near Emmett, Idaho. KBOI announced.

“For the past decade, Roland Steadham has guided people through storm after storm in Idaho,” the station wrote. “He loved studying the weather and loved sharing it with people in Idaho. Roland’s excitement about the weather was contagious.”

Authorities responded to a report of a plane crash near the Payette River just west of Montour, Idaho, at 10:58 a.m. local time Tuesday, according to the Gem County Sheriff’s Office.

Preliminary information indicates that the small plane cut a power line and crashed on river ice, officials said. Authorities said both male passengers were “fatally injured” in the crash.

Authorities did not disclose who was flying the plane during the incident.

The station said the 67-year-old chief meteorologist was a devoted husband, father of six and grandfather.

“Roland often talked about his wife, Erin, and their six children and grandchildren,” KBOI reported. “In recent years, he and his family have enjoyed canoeing in Idaho and spending time together cooking in their backyard.”

“He rarely speaks without sharing his love for his family,” the outlet said.

In addition to his love for his family, Steadham also owned a small airplane and enjoyed recreational flying.

“It was a hobby he enjoyed and he would often share stories about local pilots and their exploits,” the outlet said.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed in a statement to Fox News Digital that a small plane carrying two people crashed into a frozen river near Emmett, Idaho.

“The FAA and NTSB will investigate. NTSB will be responsible for the investigation and will provide further updates,” the agency said.
