Why JD Vance Is Going Viral: A Hug, His Wife’s Religion, And The Internet’s Reactions | EXPLAINED | World News

US Vice President J.D. Vance has been making headlines lately as videos of his statements regarding interfaith marriage continue to circulate online. In addition, several photos and clips about him went viral, leading to widespread speculation among netizens about his marriage.

On Friday, he addressed criticism over his comments about his interfaith marriage with his Hindu wife Usha, according to ANI. Vance stated that he hoped his wife would one day share her Christian faith, but that she had no intention of converting and respected her decision.

Responding to Canadian Rebel News journalist and broadcaster Ezra Levant, Vance emphasized that despite different beliefs, his marriage was built on mutual respect, trust and communication.

He had criticized Vance for expressing his hope that his wife would convert to Christianity, calling it “disgusting” and accusing him of being insensitive to the Hindu faith.

What Did JD Vance Say?

While speaking at the Turning Point USA Event in Mississippi on Wednesday, J.D. Vance was asked if he hopes his wife will eventually “come to Jesus.” He expressed hope that his wife, Usha Vance, who was raised Hindu, would one day accept Christianity.

But it also confirmed Usha’s free will and mutual respect in interfaith marriage.

He said, “Most Sundays from now on, Usha will come to church with me. As I’ve told her, as I’ve said publicly, and as I’ll say now in front of 10,000 of my closest friends — do I hope that in the end, she’s somehow moved by what I’m impressed with in church? Yes, frankly, I hope so because I believe in the Christian gospel, and I hope eventually my wife will come to see it the same way.”

However, he added that faith is deeply personal and differences in belief do not create conflict in marriage.

“But if not, then God says everyone has free will, and that’s fine with me. It’s something you figure out with your friends, with your family, with your loved one,” Vance said.

The Vice President, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, described Usha’s background: “My wife did not grow up as a Christian. It is fair to say that she grew up in a Hindu family but in a particularly religious family in both directions.”

He also explained that the couple has found a balanced way to manage their interfaith home.

Vance’s Answer and Explanation

Vance credited his wife, Usha, with encouraging him to rejoin the faith that had become an integral part of his life. He also stated that he would not pressure his wife to convert. The couple decided to raise their three children in the Christian faith.

“Secondly, my Christian faith tells me that the Bible is true and good for people. As I said at TPUSA, my wife is the greatest blessing I have ever had in my life. She herself encouraged me years ago to reunite with my faith. She is not a Christian and has no intention of converting, but like many people in an interfaith marriage or any interfaith relationship, I hope one day she can see things the way I do,” the US President added.

“No matter what, I will continue to love and support her and continue to talk to her about faith and life and everything else because she is my wife. Third, posts like this anti-Christian bigotry. Yes, Christians have beliefs. And yes, those beliefs have many consequences, one of which is that we want to share them with other people. This is a completely normal thing and anyone who tells you otherwise has an agenda,” he said.

The Hug That Goes Viral

Netizens began speculating about JD Vance embracing Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, who was previously shot and killed. During an event, Erika introduced the US Vice President on stage and the two embraced.

The incident caused a stir online; some users called the hug “inappropriate” and commented on Erika’s introductory speech. While some netizens expressed their disapproval, others defended the move, emphasizing that they were “friends”.

It is important to note that these claims are entirely speculative and there is no concrete evidence to support the rumors circulating.
