‘Why was he here?’ Mother of schoolgirl raped by a small-boat migrant demands to know why he was allowed into Britain despite 11 previous convictions

The mother of a girl raped by an asylum seeker has questioned why she was allowed into the country after committing a series of crimes in Germany.

Amin Abedi Mofrad, 35, was convicted of raping the 15-year-old boy on his way home from an under-18 nightclub on February 14 last year.

The teenager was waiting to be collected from Oxford’s Westgate Shopping Center when Mofrad attacked him.

The Iranian national told the girl she could be a ‘sex doll’ before dragging her into an alley and raping her, Oxford Crown Court heard.

Mofrad arrived in the UK on a small boat in 2023 and was arrested shortly after for alleged sexual assault. This case was later dropped due to lack of evidence.

He also had 11 previous convictions for violent assaults and ABH in Germany between 2014 and 2019.

The victim’s mother also claimed that the Ministry of Internal Affairs He claimed responsibility for the attack and harshly criticized the decision to allow him to enter the UK despite his previous convictions.

In her letter to Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood, she said her daughter ‘carries a pain and trauma that no child should ever know’.

Amin Abedi Mofrad (35) raped a 15-year-old boy in an alley on Valentine’s Day.

Speaking to the Sun, the mother added: ‘There’s actually only one question; Why was he in this country? I think I have the right to know the truth.

‘This man should have been checked when he came here, not after he raped my child.

‘They would understand that he had a conviction in Germany and was therefore a danger to Britain. ‘He should never have been in the community.’

The rape was reported to Thames Valley Police on 7 April and Mofrad was arrested and released on bail shortly afterwards.

He was already known to the police in Germany, where he was convicted of four assault charges.

The force was also informed that Mofrad was arrested for alleged sexual assault shortly after arriving in the UK on a small boat in 2023. This case was later dropped due to lack of evidence.

Mofrad was also convicted of stealing a woman’s purse and silver chain last January, the court was told.

He was arrested for a second time in connection with the incident in Oxford on 13 December after new evidence was found on his mobile phone. Mofrad was charged and arrested on February 3 this year.

Mofrad was found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict on October 7 on one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.

On Thursday, he was sentenced to 9 years and 6 months in prison, with his license period extended by 3 years.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Bethany Liversidge, of Oxford CID, said: ‘Firstly, I would like to recognize the tremendous courage shown by the young victim in supporting this investigation from start to finish.

Thanks to his support and courage we were able to bring Mofrad to justice.

‘I hope this result shows how committed Thames Valley Police is to investigating and preventing violence against women and girls and bringing offenders to justice.

‘Project Vigilant is a valuable initiative that helps us prevent crimes from occurring, but unfortunately when they do, it allows us to continue to build intelligence around predatory activity.

‘The victim and her family have requested privacy at this time.’
