Widdup stable set to continue dominance at Hawkesbury

Local trainer Brad Widdup is looking to continue his good record at the Hawkesbury by saddling three runners at Thursday’s meeting.

Widdup was last season’s head trainer at Hawkesbury and his stable continues to produce a steady stream of winners, including the Matriarch Stakes at Sunset Park at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival.

Widdup will saddle two runners in the Irresistible Pools & Spas State Maiden Plate (1100m) on Admire Me, ridden by Tyler Schiller, and Like A Surgeon, ridden by Christian Reith, who will compete in the Hawkesbury event.

“Admire Me is a mare who had good trials before making her debut in a serviceable race behind Jarrito at Gosford,” Widdup said.

“He came back into the field that day in a race dominated by the leaders and was not well beaten as he finished sixth in six races.

“He stayed in the 1100m at Hawkesbury and has done well since the Gosford run. I think he will improve and do well at the finish.”

Like A Surgeon is a five-year-old filly making her debut after two trials. In his last one, Widdup powered him to victory at the Hawkesbury on November 17.

“He’s put in the time but he’s showing talent and it’ll be good to take him to the races,” Widdup said of Like A Surgeon.

Widdup’s remaining runner in the Hawkesbury will be Blue Eyed Brigid in the De Bortoli Wines Benchmark 64 Handicap (1800m). Jockey Tom Sherry will be making the journey.
