Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar warns US in AI competition race with China

The United States is in competition with China when it comes to artificial intelligence and keeping American workers competitive, Shyam Sankar, chief technology officer and executive vice president of Palantir Technologies, told Fox News Digital in a new interview.

“What you see is a wire manufacturer with a former enlisted Navy officer who doesn’t have any special training but is an expert in running the plant,” Sankar said.

“And AI has given them the ability to increase their productivity,” Sankar added. “They’ve increased yields by 50 percent. They’ve reduced downtime on machines by 20 percent. They can produce more. And given the geopolitical context we’re in, we’re in competition with China. We want to bring these jobs back to America. By giving American workers the ability to be 50 times more productive, this superpower is the way to make it profitable and affordable to bring jobs back to America.”

Sankar reiterated this view on Monday column “The job loss narrative is a ploy to attract investors, attract media attention, and consolidate political power. The real promise of AI in the enterprise is to make the American worker 50 times more productive, unleashing his taste and will,” he wrote on Fox News Digital.

Sankar told Fox News Digital that he is concerned about a scenario in which the United States is unable to leverage AI and loses its competitive advantage.

“I don’t even want to think about it,” Sankar said about the scenario. “So, you know, if China’s productivity is increasing by 6%, if America’s productivity is increasing by roughly half a percent, that’s our slingshot. That’s our asymmetric advantage, you know. It’s something that’s not in their long-term plan.”

Sankar said artificial intelligence could be like a wild card, something China did not expect, which if used well could keep the United States ahead of the communist country.

“For more than 50 years, China has been systematically considering how to undermine America’s prosperity,” Sankar said. “You know what wasn’t in that plan? Artificial intelligence. Now, the challenge is on how we use it? How do we use the twin powers of America, the American worker, and artificial intelligence to reindustrialize the country, regain advantage and productivity, and do that by giving American workers superpowers and making it profitable to produce everything we need right here in America?”
