Wolves: Striker Tolu Arokodare forces training to be cancelled

Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare demanded that training be canceled after he refused to leave the field.

BBC Sport was told that the 25-year-old Nigerian footballer sat down and demanded that the club allow him to transfer to Fiorentina.

Wolves rejected an offer from the Serie A side after accepting an offer from Turkish club Trabzonspor.

Arokodare’s actions led to new boss Cesar Peixoto signing off on Monday.

The striker did not feature in Wednesday’s friendly at Maidenhead United as Wolves continue their pre-season plans.

On social media on Wednesday evening, Arokodare wrote: “Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest standards of education.

“My commitment has always been to prepare myself in the best possible way so that I can contribute to my teammates and the club when called upon.

“My contract with Wolves continues and my only goal is to fulfill my professional responsibilities by training, doing my job and contributing to the team in accordance with this contract.”

The latest incident is another flashpoint in the striker’s career at Molineux, who was disciplined in April following an altercation with teenage striker Mateus Mane.

Arokodare signed from Genk for £24 million last summer but scored just three goals in the league as Wolves finished bottom of the Premier League and were relegated.

And it represents an early challenge just weeks into the reign of Peixoto, who replaced Rob Edwards in a surprise move last month.

The 46-year-old, who has played for Portugal once in his football career, has moved on from Gil Vicente and will aim to return Wolves to the Premier League at the first attempt.
