Woman and child die after ‘getting into difficulty’ in water at London park

A woman and a child died after being caught in a difficult situation in the water in a park in London.

Police and emergency services rushed to the scene at Elthorne Park in Ealing just before 4.30pm today.

The couple, believed to be a mother and her son, were pulled from the water but died at the scene.

Police are working to identify the suspect’s relatives. Their ages were not disclosed.

Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray, of the Metropolitan Police Western Area Command Unit, said: ‘This is a tragic incident in which a woman and her young child lost their lives. Our thoughts are with their loved ones.

‘Whilst an investigation into what happened is ongoing, initial indications are that the circumstances are not suspicious.’

Elthorne Park is a popular area located by the River Brent.
