A woman tragically lost her life while trying to save her beloved dog from the sea.

Lancashire Police announced that a woman and a man who went into the water “to save their trapped dog” in Thornton-Cleveleys on Saturday evening experienced serious difficulties in the water.

Although the woman in her 60s was treated at the scene, it was announced that she died in the hospital where she was taken. The condition of the man in his 60s, who was hospitalized, was stated to be critical.

Police confirmed the dog was pulled from the sea “safe and healthy” following the incident near Fleetwood Beach Cafe, LancsLive reported.

A force spokesman said:

“Shortly after 8.31pm yesterday evening, the ambulance service contacted us to say they were treating two people who were pulled from the sea by HM Coastguard at Thornton Cleveleys.

“They were treated at the scene, but unfortunately the woman in her 60s was pronounced dead in hospital. Investigations into the identification of her next of kin are continuing.”

“The man, aged in his 60s, was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

“The dog was rescued safe and sound. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and the file will be forwarded to the coroner in due course.”

The tragedy follows at least 15 water-related deaths during the recent hot weather.
