Woman had to prove innocence after technology wrongly tied her to package theft

(NewsNation) — A Denver woman says she was falsely accused of stealing a package after an incident. swarm camera He allegedly linked her to a burglary at a home in another Colorado town.

Chrisanna Elser said a police officer showed up at her door with documents showing she had picked up a package from a porch in Bow Mar, Colorado. He said the police officer did not believe him when he told him he was not in the area at the time.

From then on, Elser said he set out to prove his innocence.

He gathered evidence that showed he was elsewhere when the theft occurred. He said he didn’t stop while passing through Bow Mar that day and went to the tailor to have a dress made.

However, after this evidence was presented to the Columbine Valley Police Department, the summons against him was dismissed.

In an email, the department acknowledged his efforts to prove his innocence, wrote “good job (by the way)” and informed him that no further action would be taken.

Elser told NewsNation that she and her husband are waiting to see evidence showing how investigators were attached to the vehicle of the person captured on camera, even though he was only driving through town.

“In this video, the person was visibly younger and was moving off screen,” Elser said.

He added that the experience has made him more cautious about interactions with law enforcement.

“Now, I might be a little more careful because I could be accused of doing something wrong for something I didn’t do,” Elser said.

After receiving the email from police, he said he felt vindicated after working to clear his name.
